Since 2013 Mossy Gatherings has presented over 100 shows and educational events in the community featuring a wide variety of musical experiences. (Classical, jazz, roots, reggae, rock and folk, to name a few.)
For me it has been a privilege to meet and get to know both musicians and patrons, many of whom have become good friends.
I am also deeply grateful to Karen Rosalie who offered the warm hospitality of the River Café to the first Mossy Gathering presentations. Others who provided us with welcoming venues include the Reverend Graham Bland of St. George’s Anglican Church, Leigh Greaves and the excellent volunteer staff of Harmony Centre Owen Sound, Neil Morrison of the Frog Ponds Cafe, Greg and Joanna Bottrell and Lisa Koop of Heartwood Concert Hall, Maryann Thomas of the Ginger Press Bookstore, and Charlene and Jay Hoffman of the former Hit The Beat Studio.
Shorty’s Bar & Grill have graciously fed many traveling musicians on the house, Parsons Foto Source has printed many posters at good prices, Awesome Blossoms Flowers & More have supplied beautiful arrangements for staging concerts as well as flowers given to musicians, The Georgian Bay Symphony, The SweetWater Music Festival, and SummerFolk Music and Crafts Festival have kindly promoted our concerts, Max the piano tuner gave discounts for many tunings of the Grand Piano, and Sarah Maloney from Her Wellness has assisted Mossy Gatherings in selling tickets, getting the word out about shows, and augmented events with great items from her store. For all these invaluable services, I am extremely grateful.
Finally, a very special thanks to a talented team of very dedicated colleagues – “The quintessential without whom”: Jodi Birch VanDyk, Jon and Laura VanDyk, Jeremy Boyd, Kyle Haight, Richard Yves Sitoski, Kelly Babcock, Jon Farmer, and David Hawkins.
