If you need a break from your day, or from your year, I think I might have an opportunity for you to consider. Find out where Shawna Caspi is playing next ... and go hear her.
I had the opportunity to witness this young woman's work on December 6th at St. George's Hall in Owen Sound, and since I witnessed it, I'm now here to testify.
Shawna's delightful, original works are the kind that make you wish songs were 20 minutes long. Her music is unique and welcoming, upbeat and smart, and her delivery is entertainment.
In the first few moments of her performance you think you have her figured out. This woman is a guitarist. Her ability to make a guitar speak in a way that seems new and unique is quickly apparent. And then, she sings ...
At this time you decide that you wish she might be a little less talented. You want to watch her hands but when you do, you realize that you also want to watch her face so that you won't miss the expressions of emotion that accompany each word.
And it's right about then, that you become aware that the words are original and that you wish you could just close your eyes and listen to them.
My advice? Keep your eyes open, take in as much of her playing, her singing, her emotion, as much of Shawna Caspi as you can, then buy her CDs, take them home, close your eyes and listen.
