Kelsey McNulty: has a musical inclination that will stand the test of time. From her early gigging days at the age of eight to her current forays across the musical spectrum, Kelsey manages to capture a free childlike innocence and channel it through soulful melodies and fables of the past and present. Her siren song conjures memories of Blossom Dearie and Beth Gibbons and a subdued longing imagined through lush harmonies and explorative song form.
Whether playing keyboards, accordion, or singing, Kelsey’s versatility and skill at improvisation has made her in demand for live performances and recording sessions in creative music. Kelsey has performed and toured with some of Toronto’s great performers including Jadea Kelly, Maylee Todd and The Boxcar Boys. Performance highlights include the AGO gold party, Expressions of Brazil, Open-Ears Festival, and Paint the Halls WCH. She performs with a jazz trio, C’est la vie, annually on a privately owned Yacht called The World. Her explorations in music include a Bachelor of Music in Performance she obtained from Carleton University as well as attending Humber College’s esteemed Jazz Performance program. kelsey co-produced her first album, Excuses for Small Details, with Michael Olsen (Hidden Cameras), which was released in September 2014. Melodies carry the minimal sound which blends elements of chamber folk and jazz with an indie pop flair. |
